Asean Framework Agreement On Services (Afas) Was Signed In

The ASEAN Agreement on the Free Movement of Natural Persons (NPM), an area of cooperation on trade in services that entered into force in 2016. Persons active in the trade of goods and services, investors, business travellers, contractual service providers and persons transferred within the group will benefit from easier access for a temporary cross-border stay. Afas draws heavily on the provisions of the General Agreement on Trade in Services (GATS), the first multilateral agreement on services concluded in 1994 as part of the Uruguay Round of multilateral trade negotiations. Subsequently, decisions were taken to further strengthen services and liberalization within ASEAN while remaining in line with the provisions of the GATS. The 10th package is the last commitment under Afas.
